WebSplash: Where is 0.52?
Hey there, everybody! Just wanted to let you know about the upcoming WebSplash 0.52, and why it is taking so long for its release. The simple answer to this is: I am currently working on my Diploma thesis, and it really needs a lot of attention right now. My progress with it has been slow in the past weeks, and so I need to use every spare minute I have to work on it. Once I see that it is progressing nicely again, I will try to get 0.52 release ready.
So while you wait, I can give you a few hints of what is new in 0.52. Most of the new features are under the hood improvements: The export interface has been improved so that I can add more media-specific exports easily in the future (yes, I have some exciting plans there). There are some small interface improvements as well. A cool new feature is iChat Theater support, so that you can share media with your friends over iChat. Whether video will make it into the next release is still unknown. While I have some code there waiting to be released, it is still a MAJOR hack, and I am unsure whether it should make it into a release or not. Finally, there are a few bugfixes, most notably, keys should work correctly now in full-screen Flash games. I will keep you posted on any updates.
WebSplash 0.51 Released
Last night I finally released WebSplash 0.51. It took longer than expected, since it seemed once one bug was fixed, the next crept in. But, I hope that with this version all major bugs have been squashed. Of course, now it's your job to tell us what we've missed.
I am also looking for ways to start an active community around WebSplash, since I could use help in maintaining, documenting and coding the program and its website. Any suggestions are welcome, though I already have the feeling that more features, such as video support may be necessary before more interest sparks.
Read on, for the complete list of changes in 0.51.
WebSplash: More Delays
Hi there. So today is the deadline for WebSplash 0.51, and although I was hopeful of maintaining this schedule, it seems it just won't work out. The test versions of the 0.51 release proved to still contain a few bugs. Normally, these probably would not take all too much time to fix, but given that I need to stay in bed most of the time to recover, this may take longer than usual. Still, I hope that the next release is only days away. In case you are wondering what you can expect from 0.51: A long list of bug fixes, with a few minor features built in.
WebSplash Delays
Hey there everybody. Just wanted to let you all know that while 0.51 is well under way and almost complete, my health has taken a small hit in the past days, and I have not been able to get any work done. I guess that is what happens when you try to do too much at the same time. I actually kind of expected this to happen once WebSplash was released. Anyway, I'll keep you posted on the 0.51 release. I hope that I will still manage to stick to the time-frame. But for now, what I really need to do is relax a bit and get well again.
WebSplash New Site
After my adventures with trac, you may have noticed that I have put a WebSplash Wiki online. I am using the DokuWiki engine, and so far, I am very happy with it. If any of you readers would like to help in keeping the Wiki up-to-date, or simply adding more content, please drop me a line.
Other than being busy with the 0.51 release, and working on the things I actually need to work on (such as, oh yes, a diploma thesis), I am now in the process of adding a Forum to the WebSplash site. I realize that I have already added a (deserted) forum to the Drupal blog here, however I somehow feel that a "real" forum software package would do the job better. We'll see how it goes.
