Last.fm - I love it!

By meck - Posted on 06 November 2008

Actually I have known about it for about over two years now, but I have never really tried it. One reason was a stupid thing at my university we call quota :-)
Lately I came about a blog entry of a guy introducing the new features of the latest Ubuntu release. He also mentioned, that Rhythmbox was able to play Last.fm audio streams and I quickly decided to register and see how it works...

The registration was a no-brainer, I just

went to http://www.last.fm
registered with a user name
added 5 of my preferred artists to my profile
launched Rhythmbox and configured it accordingly

The result is an online radio which plays very cool tracks. When listening in Rhythmbox you usually have the choice between various songs. After a while new tracks are added in the queue and the old ones become unavailable. However the track being played at the moment is always finished until you skip it manually. In order to train the intelligence of the system you have two buttons: One is to ban songs you don't like and another which indicates that you love the current song. All in all the results look really promising to me, although I cannot speak out of much experience. So what about you? Any experiences or thoughts on this? Here is how it looks on my computer:
