Obama - Not just words
Barack Obama has often stressed the power of words. And although that resonates well with many of the voters (and people like me), words can lose their power quickly, if you don't back them up with actions. But in Obama's case, he (unlike the current president) is just so good with words. If you have ever seen him give a speech, you'll agree that he is a great speaker, even if you do not agree with what he says. So it comes as no surprise that Obama would stress the importance of words, given his talents.
However, even the liberal digg community has sometimes wondered, whether Obama's words really meant something, or if it was just a cover-up for his inexperience in the political world. Well, just today, I got a glimpse of just how strongly Obama sticks to his words.
Obama has always wanted to clean up the "mess" in Washington: Bring back clean politics to the White House. That is why he has been against campaign donations from lobbyists from the start. So what happens when someone, who might be affiliated with a special interest group, donates money to Obama's campaign? Well, believe it or not, he sends the money back. Read what happened when this woman sent $100 to the Obama campaign. Make sure to read the letter sent back, at the bottom of the page.
Although this may not mean much, or prove anything, it did impress me. The extreme amount of lobbying in the USA has always frustrated me, and I thought it would be an unsolvable issue as every candidate would have no reasons, apart from moral ones, to actually not accept money from lobbyists. Well, maybe we have just met the man who puts moral over victory. Much unlike another candidate I know...
