And so it begins...
It's a rare occasion when anything web 2.0 materializes in that other place, the "real world". Were it so, the next president's name would be Ron Paul, Hillary would have transformed to Darth Vader, lolcats would be on TV screens, oh yeah, and l33tsp33k would be a widely used language. However, yesterday all over the world something from the online world swept over to reality: The wish to put an end to the Scientology organization.
It started quite unseemingly with a disturbing video of Scientology frontman Tom Cruise going bazonkas, and an even more scary online BBC report, about one man doing the unthinkable: Going head-to-head with the powerful cult (oops, not supposed to use the word. Of course, I mean "church"). Then a new messiah rose from the ashes, calling himself Anon and his group Anonymous, posting numerous YouTube videos, and predicting the imminent destruction of the Scientology organization. After that many Scientology websites were hacked, and a bunch of secret internal documents leaked onto public servers and torrents. So all remained - as usual - restricted to the online world.
Until now. Yesterday all over the world (such as here, here and here), demonstrations in the name of Anon were carried out in front of Scientology headquarters. Many of the protestors wished to stay anonymous, either for fear of being persecuted by the cult, or (what I believe) because it's simply a bit c00lor.
